2021 April “The Middle Years”

middle years publication

Aloha, AMS Families!

The goal of April 2021’s “The Middle Years” Newsletter is to provide busy parents with practical ideas that promote school success from the homefront.

As we head into the last part of April, we wanted to share a few announcements and parent education opportunities, too.

MONDAY, APRIL 12TH FROM 1:30-2:30: Smoked meat pickup in the cafeteria. Thanks to all who participated…we raised nearly $1,000 for our school and its programs for students! Please do not arrive early, as we need to clear the driveway of buses and cars at the end of our school day. If this time does not work for you, please email alecia.morgan@k12.hi.us to make alternate arrangements.

STARTING April 12: AMS will participate in the American Heart Challenge in conjunction with the American Heart Association. Sign up to learn about this month-long series of heart-healthy events!

TUESDAY, APRIL 13TH AT 9:00:  Join us for a parent presentation called, “Honoring Your Child: Bringing Out the Best in Them.” Join FOCUS Hawaii for an interactive parent workshop in celebration of April’s Month of the Military Child! Learn how to bring out the best in your middle schooler by communicating feelings, promoting emotional regulation, and “getting to the green.” By joining the meeting, you agree to participate according to the terms of service. FOCUS Agreement to Participate Form

APRIL 19TH-23RD: Smarter Balance Testing for our students. 7A–Monday the 19th, 7B–Tuesday the 20th, 8A–Wednesday the 21st, and 8B, Thursday the 22nd. Please make sure your child has plenty of rest, a healthy breakfast, and gets to school on time! A not-so-rushed morning makes for a healthier, happier, more focused student. Let’s help our kids strive to show their BEST!

TUESDAY, APRIL 20TH at 3:00pm: Workshop available – “ARGH! MY KID IS SO DISORGANIZED! Helping your child who is disorganized and unfocused.”

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21ST AT 9:00: Join us online Wednesday, April 21st at 9am for our PRINCIPAL’S COFFEE HOUR with Mr. Hetrick. We are continuously exploring techniques and strategies to give our students the best learning experiences possible. We realize that you, as family members, may have encounters with other schools and programs that have worked, and want to hear from you. We look forward to “talking story” and hearing insights and ideas from our community and our families in our pursuit of excellence at Aliamanu Middle School.

At Aliamanu Middle School, we have an open door policy. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s ever anything we can do for you!
