Students are expected to be clean, neat and responsible in their dress and appearance. We have a School Community Council approved dress code policy to ensure campus safety and maintain a productive learning environment that focuses on student achievement. Any student not meeting the dress code criteria will be sent to the office. When a student, parent or teacher is not sure if the rules have been broken the Principal or Vice Principal(s) will have the final say.
All students attending Aliamanu Middle School are required to wear the school uniform from the first day of school. Students are required to wear a uniform shirt and adhere to specific criteria for dress code bottoms and outerwear as provided below. Students must arrive in uniform and remain in uniform all day, including after school while on campus.
**PE uniforms are not to be worn as school uniforms. They are for PE class ONLY.**

Policy Background Information:
All school community role groups have been involved in the dialogue and decision-making for the uniform policy. Students and parents play a large part in the selection of styles and colors based on preference, practicality of clothing, maintenance and costs. According to the Hawaii Board of Education Policy #4410 on School Uniforms, adopted 5/96, all school uniform policies must include the following four components:
- Parent leadership and involvement: The School Community Council (SCC) participated in forming the policy and the majority of the members of the school community were supported it. All role groups participated in the conversations and decision making.
- No undue financial burden is placed upon individuals and parents: Most parents view the uniform policy as cost saving for student clothing.
- Protection of students’ Constitutional rights: The Constitutional rights of students will be respected and Aliamanu Middle School will not impose any messages, political or otherwise, on the school uniform. The school name, and/or logo/mascot will appear on the uniform.
- Waivers may be requested: Parents wishing to request that their student be exempted from the uniform policy may request an Application for Exemption form from the school office within the first five days after enrollment. Parents should (1) return completed form to the office, (2) meet with the Principal or Vice Principal to review the reasons for the student uniform policy and the dispensation of the request, and (3) review the acceptable student attire for approval.
Waiver Applications:
Approved Applications are valid only for the current school year and must be renewed at the beginning of each school year.
Consequences for Non Compliance to Uniform Policy:
Students who are not in proper uniform attire will receive a call to their parents and/or a Lunch Detention. Non-compliance with the Uniform Policy will be considered as a Class D Dress Code violation and students will be disciplined according to Chapter 19 and School Disciplinary Guidelines. Parents will be notified of disciplinary consequences when appropriate. No loaner uniforms are available. Student will have to purchase a new or used shirt or parents/guardians will have to bring the student a shirt to wear for the day. PE shirts are not allowed as a substitute.
